As a child growing up in Queens, I always looked forward to both the summer and the winter months. NYC wintertime is amazing. For some, the mess of snow and ice can be both daunting and overwhelming. For me, not only does it unleash my creativity, but it also gives me permission to indulge my inner seven year old.
Admittedly, the snow can be unpleasant and a real inconveinence for a host of people (mostly Type A'ers). However, it doesn't have to be so, particularly in this city, where there is so many activities. Below are a few straegies to pass the time during and make a snow storm more bearable:
1.) You know that thing you've been meaning to do -- snowstorms present an excellent opportunity to complete projects. Closet organization, home (office) repairs, decorating, and whatever else resides on your to do list make for some of the more productive activities to complete during this time.
2.) Learn something -- read a book, take an online class/lecture, read random Wikipedia articles (OK, so I'm a nerd...), start a hobby.
3.) Cook something -- (just make sure you invite me over for a taste) create a new dish or perfect an old one, bake something..matterfact, bake two somethings and place one in the freezer.
4.) Go outside -- yes, outside! the snow can't hurt you (just avoid any that's yellow or brown in nature), if playing in the snow doesn't tickle your fancy, perhaps ice skating, lanscape/macro photography, or sledding are more desirable choices.
5.) Visit the elderly/call your mom -- enough said.
6.) PARTY! PARTY! PARTY! -- host an impromptu get together or head out to a bar...there is sure to be one open nearby...
Enjoy the snow!
